Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the newest land to open in Disney World. Already open in California, it opened Aug 29, 2019 in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

The setting is chronologically positioned between the films The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Walking Tour of Batuu

Passing Muppet land on your left, You’ll walk through a grand stone arch and onto Batuu, a remote planet on the edge of the galaxy’s Outer Rim Territories.

After walking through some lightly forested trails you’ll quickly arrive at Black Spire Outpost.

While this used to be a bustling outpost prior to hyperspace technology, it is now a dilapidated melting pot of smugglers, rogues, renegades and The Resistance. The First Order is also here to try and quash the rebellion.

Kylo Ren is also rumored to be here, having arrived after hearing reports that Rey has joined a gathering of the Resistance secretly mobilizing on the planet.

Alien Landscape

Batuu’s distinguishing feature is its many towering petrified trees. Black Spire gets its name from one of these stone-like towers.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Pilot the Millennium Falcon on an “interactive smuggling mission” – more similar to a cross between Star Tours and Mission Space than it is to Avatar: Flight of Passage. You’ll be given a role to play during the flight. The combination of each person’s actions, provide a unique experience.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo – Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs brings exotic flavors and unusual dishes to his traveling diner “Tuggs’ Grub” – with great gluten-free options too!

Ronto Roasters – A recycled podracing engine fires up a spit of exotic meats, meticulously turned by a former smelter droid, 8D-J8.

Milk Stand – The place to go to get your farm-fresh blue milk or green milk, made famous by little Luke Skywalker.

Kat Saka’s Kettle – One of the many street market stalls, this grain vendor sells the ever-popular Outpost Mix (sweet and salty popcorn snack with a hint of spice). It’s even better than it looks! While it used to be known as “popped grains” when it opened in August, it seems to now go by the more “foreign” (yet familiar) phrase, “popcorn.” There is also a new version that is yellow and green and is described as similar to what many know as “butter and salt flavor.”

For the Star Wars Shopaholic

Shopping in Galaxy’s Edge may feel reminiscent of walking through a Moroccon bazaar on planet Earth. Wandering through the streets of Black Spire, you’ll encounter small enclaves of vendors selling handmade wares.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities
Proprietor Dok-Ondar (from Solo: A Star Wars Story) offers rare antiquities in one of the largest shops in the Outpost.

Trinkets can be found from all eras of Star Wars history, as well as “legacy” lightsabers once held by famed Jedi Masters.

Many items such as the giant white wampa from the planet Hoth are for display only. This includes an entire second floor that’s packed with nostalgic movie props and Easter eggs geared to Star Wars fandom.

Droid Depot – Ready to adopt your own droid? All the fixin’s are here. Choose among the stock of droid parts to design and assemble your own.

After choosing if you want to do a BB or R-series droid, you’ll pick custom pieces, colors, and accessories to create your personalized dream droid. The fully radio-controlled droid can then guide you around Black Spire outpost, interacting with many of the elements.

Savi’s Workshop – Part of a clandestine society devoted to restoring galactic balance, the workshop Master can help you customize your very own lightsaber, while sharing a little Jedi Lore. Finding the location can be a little tricky given that it’s clandestine nature. Try asking around to see if you can purchase some “scrap metal (for $200 each).”

After making a reservation for this experience, you’ll begin by choosing one of four disciplines: Power and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental and Nature, or Protection and Defense. You’ll choose a kyber crystal. Depending on which you select, you’ll receive your set of 10 lightsaber pieces to customize your weapon.

Toydarian Toymaker – “Local” artisans keep the galaxy’s little ones amused with handcrafted toys in this whimsical workshop.

Creature Stall – Yep, bring home your very own Porg, or choose a different critter to accompany you.

Blackspire Galactic Outfitters –  Purchase your homespun robes at the main outfitters. To suit up in Resistance threads, find the Resistance Supply. If your fashion sense tends to be more Order-ly, head to First Order Cargo.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Now that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has been introduced to Galaxy’s Edge, prepare to be in the midst of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order.

Do you want to join the Resistance? Pledge loyalty to the First Order? Or go solo aiding a smuggler?

Faceoff with Kylo Ren. Journey into a life-sized starship and hop aboard a nearby Star Destroyer. Again you’ll have options for how you want to experience Batuu.

Additional alien augmentation is available by using the Disney Parks app. Your role choice will impact how you experience your visit to this land.

Here’s the well guarded entrance to this larger-than-life attraction, which opened in December 2019.

It’s truly an over-the-top, immersive experience that feels more like a journey than a ride! It can only be entered by Disney’s new virtual queue, which requires guests to show up before park opening and use the app to get their place in line. Those that succeed in obtaining their “boarding pass” are then texted when their slot becomes available and they have two hours to return and scan in at the entrance. This one is totally worth waking up at the crack of dawn for, and not having to wait in line is a luxury, worth a little pre-dawn excursion.

Star Wars Adventures Come to Life in Two Thrilling Attractions

For more than four decades, Star Wars fans have imagined what it would be like to blast across the stars inside the Millennium Falcon or race through the halls of a Star Destroyer. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will feature two signature attractions that turn those dreams into reality.

Set to open at Disneyland Resort on May 31 and at Walt Disney World Resort on Aug. 29, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, will take guests into the cockpit of “the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.” They will take the controls of the Falcon in one of three unique and critical roles as the ship hurtles through space. Some will be pilots, some gunners and some flight engineers, creating multiple ways for guests to experience the attraction.

Set to open later this year, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance places guests right in the middle of the Rebellion and gives them an active role in the fight against the First Order, including a faceoff with Kylo Ren. Their journey takes them inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer.
